Question by nightshade_187: Can towing a Front Wheel Drive cars with a wrecker truck damage it?
I had my car repossessed yesterday morning, it is a 2006 VW Jetta. I noticed that when the wrecker towed my car, he left tire marks in my yard. I am not sure if he had a master key or not, but i was wondering if he damaged my car by towing it by the back wheels. Someone told me that you can mess up the transmission by towing it by the back wheels, since it is a front wheel driven car. Can someone verify or debunk this for me.

No, we always either pick up the drive wheels, or if we can’t get to them we use dollies.
For a short distance it can be towed with the drive wheels on the ground in neutral to get it around the corner to hook it up properly once we have it out of your yard.
Or, he may have picked it up with a roll back and then all 4 wheels would be off the ground.
No, we don’t damage cars.
It is front wheel drive–they were lifted up to tow the car–the rear wheels aren’t doing anything so why would there be damage??Dragging it by the rear and scraping the front tires will probably do damage–but that is NOT what happened to you.
THIS IS A TOUGH QUESTION………….
TOWING A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE BY THE REARS WHEEL COULD CAUSE SOME DAMAGE BUT IT WAS TOWED OFF THE YARD SO THERE REALLY WAS NOT THAT MUCH RESISTANCE.
IF IT WAS TOWED FOR A DISTANCE ON THE ROAD THEN IT MIGHT CAUSE SOME DAMAGE BUT LIKE IT WAS STATED ABOVE IT IS NOT YOU VEHICLE ANYMORE.
